Hi guys n' girls.... hope youre all ok?

Kaz freaked out this morning & even i had to think about it twice when there was this SPIDER on the wall ...& i actually mean TARANTULA more like.... it was BIG ... it had DM's on its feet, it looked that HARD!!!

I had to get a PINT glass over it, to get it out... I thought it was gonna bite through the glass!! lol

Kaz keeps asking 'Are there big Spiders / Bugs in Tenerife??' & of course I always say NO!!! apart from the Cockroach that she put her hand on by mistake whilst we were out in Las America's 1 nite !!! lol

Anyone seen BAD BUGS there that she should know about!!!

Urghh we have seen some monsters since we have been back in Burnley you don't seem to get many city spiders funnily enough !

Mhhh there are jumping spiders in Tenerife and if they bite you they can sometimes make the area swell not very nicely, luckily never got bit myself but I know people and family that have. If you pop into the pharmacy they give you antibiotics for it !

Watch out... they are only small mind ! Shocked

According to a book I have the Black Widow lives on Tenerife but in all the time I have been here I have not heard of one case of anyone being bitten nor have I seen the species, which gives a fair indication of the danger!

It is included on this site if you scroll down:

http://www.iberianature.com/material/guideb.htm

There is also a scorpion (Centruroides nigrescens) - http://www.messcorpions.com/En/centruroides%20sp%20en.php - that lives in the Santa Cruz area and was introduced from North America. Its venom is described as of low toxicity.

There is a giant centipede (Scolopendra morsitans), and the latter can give a painful bite.

Personally I wouldn't worry about any of them - the fact that we never hear about them indicates that they stay out of the way of people as much as possible, which is probably a wise move!

My brothers boss caught this and left in in a bucket in his office by the wall. 10 mins later it was half way up the wall, my brother took this picture on his phone.

Yuck.

NOTE: I was told it was bought to the office to show the staff, and later released.

It's not a very clear picture but it appears to be an octopus that could climb with its sucker feet. The poor thing was clearly trying to make its escape. They are very intelligent but not intelligent enough to escape getting caught here and elsewhere! They serve them here as pulpo.

I have heard of this but still don't know what it is! I also don't know what the jumping spider species is that people go on about although I have seen plenty of different types here and where I was in Silencio. Someone told me there was a dangerous purple spider but I don't think that was real seeing as I have seen no mention of it anywhere.

Here is one type of jumping spider I have seen:

and here is another harmless tent web spider that are very common:
